What’s the definition of teamwork? Here’s one that I’m enjoying using at the moment. Effective teamwork is:

  • Helping people do something they love and are good at doing,
  • With a group of people they enjoy being with,
  • In the pursuit of a cause they believe in.

If a group of people are doing this, surely this is the very definition of teamwork. And if you can create an environment where a group of people feel this way, then in some ways surely that is the definition of leadership.

I’ve been involved in leadership training for nearly 15 years now. In that time I’ve become more and more passionate and convinced about the importance of leadership. Good leadership really is key to unlocking the potential and achieving the vision.

A couple of years ago though a wise man said to me, “think less about leaders and teams, and more about teams and leaders.” It’s a subtle but powerful mindset shift. Good leaders make good teamwork possible, and good teamwork is what gets results.

That’s why I’m passionate about helping people experience and live out the very definition of teamwork.
